There is a load of fun stuff to do in and around Sydney, but unfortunately we didn't have a whole lot of time or money. I really wanted to take Jihyeon to see the Sydney Harbor bridge and the opera house, so we flew to Sydney for 2 days to pack in what we could.
Flying into Sydney it was a little hazy, but was clear enough to get a nice shot of the CBD.
After landing and unpacking at our hotel, we headed out to grab a bite to eat. Sydney is an expensive city to eat out in, but Jihyeon managed to find this cafe where we could get a really nice meal for quite a reasonable price.
Apparently famous people eat here too!
Yum!
With full stomachs, we wandered through the city towards the opera house. Along the way there was a nice park with some huge shady trees.
This is statue of Captain Cook, the dude who discovered Australia (well, the first English man to discover Australia).
And, we finally reached the opera house. We quickly snapped a couple of pictures before heading to the ferry.
If you are travelling in Sydney, I definitely recommend jumping on the ferry. It is a great way to get around and provides a unique unobstructed view of the sights along the harbour.
We got off the ferry and followed the signs to the world famous Bondi beach. It was a long walk (took about 45minutes) and it was blazing hot. I was very happy when we finally arrived.
And here is the beach. To be honest, I was a little disappointed. The beach was crowded and the water was clean, but didn't have that tropical blue look about it like in far north Queensland.
We walked around the rocky cliffs before making our way back to the Bondi beach where we caught a bus back to the city.
We then stopped by the Queen Victoria Building which is a big old fancy building filled with shops.
I thought most of the shops were kinda boring, but this one was cool. Thomas!!!
We then chilled out by the harbor and took a couple of photos in the setting afternoon sun.
And I tried to dismantle the Sydney Harbour bridge.
It was a hot day and we were constantly on the lookout for a place to refill our water bottle.
After the sun set we had dinner and took a snap shot in front of the famous Sydney Harbour bridge at night.
The next morning we jumped on the train (they are double story in Sydney) and headed down to circular Quay again.
There is a huge botanical garden right next to the CBD near the Opera house. It was a beautiful day so we went for a walk.
There are some really big really old trees in the garden.
We then walked back around the Harbour to the bridge and walked across it.
In one of the stone pillars there is an excellent museum that shows the construction of the Harbour bridge, but the best part is there is a fantastic lookout at the top where you can snap some cool photos of the city and the bridge.
We then headed back down to Circular Quay and jumped on a ferry to go to the maritime museum. On the way we passed the famous Lunar park, a theme park that has entertained Sydney siders for decades.
Once at the maritime museum we started checking out the ships they had there. First one we looked at was a replica of the ship Captain Cook sailed when he discovered Australia.
The quarters were quite cramped, even if you were an important person.
This is the doctors bedroom. It is smaller than it looks. lol.
And this is the crew sleeping area.
The captain was much better off. He had a lovely big office that he shared with the botanist.
This is the botanists quarters.
Ship ahoy!
There was also an old Australian naval submarine at the museum.
The torpedo room.
Crazy Phil turning random taps.
The engine room.
There was also an old Australian naval destroyer. Below is the communications room.
This is the bridge. Ship ahoy. Full alert!
It was an awesome 2 days in Sydney. We had loads of fun and can't wait to go back and see more.
